Home to the 1960 Winter Olympics, The Village at Palisades Tahoe is a year-round destination. Home to epic skiing in winter and endless hiking trails in summer - or just kick back around a fire-pit in the Village year-round. The new Base to Base Gondola connects Palisades and Alpine, spanning 2.4 miles and ascends nearly 2,000 vertical feet during the 16-minute journey.

The Stevens Trail starts at the parking area on N. Canyon Way just north of Colfax. This well maintained trail is one of the most popular hiking and biking routes to the North Fork American River, in part because of its easy access from Colfax. The wildflower displays are stunning in this region, particularly in April and May. However, this is a remote trail, and hikers are advised to hike with a friend. The entire trail is mostly shaded, passing through oak, laurel, douglas fir, and huge stands of manzanita. With more than 16,000 specimens at the Museum, there is something to spark the curiosity of every visitor. The Marine Mammals gallery features a showstopper hanging 38-foot California Gray Whale, the state marine mammal of California, as well as other aquatic favorites such as the unusual narwhal and loveable manatee. The Animals of the World exhibit spans the entire Museum and there are more than 70 taxidermy animal head mounts and 140 skuills on exhibit focusing on vertebrate species. The Mineralogy exhibit colorfully showcases many of the planet's beautiful elements and minerals. A shaded path winding through the foothill oak woodland and riparian forests has several miles of trails, including across Secret Ravine Creek.

Located inside the historic Placer County Courthouse, the museum presents an overview of Placer County history from the early Nisenan inhabitants through the latter half of the 20th century. It also includes the Placer County Gold collection, the nenowed Pate Collection of American Indian artifats and the original Thomas Kinkade painting "Auburn Centennial." Free

This easy-rated 8.8 mile out and back trail takes hikers and mountain bikers from Downtown Roseville to Sierra College Boulevard, passing several beautiful parks along the way. Take your furry friend (on a leash) along the Miner’s Ravine Trail for a pleasant and peaceful stroll. One of the most stunning and iconic views in the foothills, Lake Clementine Falls is the magnificent spillway over the dam of Lake Clementine. The lake is a favorite among boaters as well as those kayaking and paddleboarding. Most people enjoy the falls as a reward for the Lake Clementine trail hike. The 4 mile round trip hike begins from the Auburn State Recreation Area Confluence and passes under the Foresthill Bridge and along the river. Check in point is at the falls viewing area.

Hidden Falls Regional Park, located in the beautiful oak woodlands near Auburn, offers 30 miles of multiple-use trails for hiking, running, biking and equestrian riding, two observation decks for viewing the 30 +/- foot waterfalls, riparian habitat along several creeks, unimproved picnic areas, swimming areas and fishing access. The Foresthill Bridge is the tallest bridge in California at 730 feet and spans across 2,428 feet over the stunning vistas of the North Fork of the American River. Fun fact for movie buffs: the bridge was used in the movie XXX starring Vin Diesel. The movie shows his character driving a stolen car off of the bridge and then jumping out of the car mid-air and parachuting down to the bottom of the American River Canyon. Parking is available at either end of the bridge.
